DESCRIPTION
This beautiful Turkana container is part of an incredibly special collection of pieces which took 8 years to curate. Each container is hand-carved from indigenous wood with great skill by the pastoral Turkana people of Kenya. Due to their nomadic lifestyle the Turkana people are skilled in creating functional pieces that are easy to transport from materials readily found in their harsh desert environment. The design of the containers have been developed over the years and the final design depends on the skill and ingenuity of the maker. These containers would have originally been used to collect milk and to carry food.
The wood has taken on a beautiful patina and wear after years of use. Style as a decorative piece or with dried foliage and florals anywhere in the home.
