r.w. - preorder shipping June
Our R.W. cap stands for Roots and Wings coming from the African proverb - "we desire to pass on two things to our children; the first is roots and the second is wings".
The keepers give the roots, the rehabilitation program fosters the wings, providing confidence and structure for orphans to live wild again.
The embroidery is of baby elephants and our R.W. blankie detail. Blankets form a critical component of orphaned elephants care, comfort and survival as they are extremely susceptible to the elements. They help provide heat that would otherwise be given from their mother or herd as well as protect them from the sun. Calves become very attached to their blankets as the familiarity gives them a sense of security and helps them to self-soothe when feeling stressed or anxious, a safety blanket in their most vulnerable days.
Watch how your support helps. Keeper Dorothy with Long'uro. This beautiful boy was rescued after falling into a well and later attacked by hyenas, leaving him with only a third of his trunk. Filled with courage and resilience he continues to amaze the keepers with his intuitive ways of adapting to life. Captured by Thige Njuguna for Reteti.
