Turkana Honey Pot 21
This pot is hand-carved from indigenous wood with great skill by the pastoral Turkana people of Kenya and finished with goatskin leather details. Due to their nomadic lifestyle the Turkana people are skilled in creating functional pieces that are easy to transport from materials readily found in their harsh desert environment. The design of the containers have been developed over the years and the final design depends on the skill and ingenuity of the maker. These containers were traditionally used to store honey, the only natural sweetener available in traditional diets.
The wood has taken on a beautiful patina and wear after years of use.
Stand included. Please note all stands may have some imperfections.
