Hand-carved in the Democratic Republic of Congo, from indigenous wood these rattles have small calabashes containers which would have been used to measure safe amounts of medicine by the community healer. The rattles are surmounted by a head or an entire kneeling figure of a woman and may be used during divination rituals.
