DESCRIPTION
The Guro people of the Ivory Coast are very spiritual and their masks are representations of their spiritual way of life. Guro masks are a representation of the spirit of Gu, the wife of Zamble, a supernatural being. Their masks are distinctive with unique 'horns' which are believed to have magic powers to protect the owner and their community. Traditionally they are worn during ceremonies to honour their ancestors.
