Bamun Bowl
DESCRIPTION
This ceremonial bowl has been intricately hand carved by the Bamun people of Cameroon. The detailed designs is a replica of the courtly card art from the workshops of the royal palaces of the Cameroon Grassland.
The handle shows the skill of the carving and handles were considered to be important in the design as it was viewed as a better way to serve the food to guests by holding a handle rather than the bowl. The carving of the male head on this bowl, with cubby cheeks and chiselled face is typical of Bamun carving style.
This bowl works perfectly as a decorative piece or a soulful catchall anywhere in the home.
