Bamun Shields | Cameroon
These striking shields are hand carved from wood and painted with distinctive patterns by the Bamun people of Cameroon. Cameroon shields traditionally bear intricate geometric patterns designs to cause confusion and dizziness in enemies.
Shields are widely used throughout Africa forming an indispensable part of dances and ceremonies, playing an important role in the initiation rites where the unique design of a shield represents a boy’s insignia.
