Lega Mask | D.R. Congo
Although simple in form, hand carved Lega masks embody complex and multiple meanings. Masks refer to ancestors and are passed on from one generation to the next as symbols of continuity. They are also used as initiation objects in ceremonies of the Bwami society. The magic of the mask lies in its power to transform the wearer into a spiritual mediator between this world and the ancestral realm.
We love the light tones and simple features of this mask.
